A monitor can check a web page, an API, a port or a host. This page lists the options you will see in the form.

Monitor types

  • HTTP. Requests a URL and checks the status code, headers and body.

  • TCP. Opens a connection to a host and port.

  • Ping. Sends ICMP echo requests.

Interval and regions

Intervals run from 30 seconds to 1 hour. A monitor fails only when at least two regions agree, which avoids false alarms from a single bad route.

Timeouts

The default timeout is 10 seconds. Lower it for fast endpoints, so a slow response counts as a failure.

Assertions

Add assertions to turn a simple reachability check into a real health check, for example that the JSON field status equals ok.
